I was a lot more interested in this reading than I originally thought I would be. I am currently taking a sociology class and can apply a lot of the concepts I have learned to these children.
I really liked how each chapter started with a quote that relates to the inner meaning of the chapter. The first chapter starts with "The classroom should be a space where we're all in power in different ways". In the chapter, one of the students (Tavares) got involved in a classroom debate. Tavares was not typically a well behaved student, or engaged in classroom activities. But in this debate, Tavares put his full efforts into the discussion. Mr. Michie allowed the class to debate to be on a topic in which the class was interested in; Eating in class. I thought this was interesting because I find myself more engaged in classroom activities that I'm more interested in.
